Rufus Jordan Lic Ac, MBAcC, BSc (Hons)

Barbara Bishop

Rufus trained at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, and practices a combination of Five Element and Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture. He is experienced at working in the multi-bed clinic setting, and currently runs another multi-bed session (with Charlie Stone) at The Acupuncture Clinic (www.acudance.co.uk) in Hove. He also provides private one-to-one sessions their too.

Rufus is particularly interested in making acupuncture treatment accessible to everyone, which is why he chooses to work in two low-cost clinics. He is also very keen to attract more men to acupuncture treatment as he believes there are very few men (only approx. 20% of patients nationally) benefiting from the relief of symptoms and improved quality of life that acupuncture treatment offers.

Before acupuncture, Rufus studied Telecommunications Engineering Degree in Plymouth and spent many years working in the field of IT at American Express in Brighton. He continues to maintain this interest working part time at charitable organisation in Whitehawk, in East Brighton.

Rufus lives in Brighton with his partner Sian (a fellow acupuncturist) and their new baby Heath. Rufus has a passion for music, cooking and travelling and enjoys Qi Gong, swimming and loves getting out on the South Downs on his bike or walking, come rain, shine (or snow!).

Charlotte Stone Lic Ac, MBAcC, BSc (Hons)

Charlotte Stone

Throughout my twenties, I studied Chi Gong, Nei Gong and Tai Chi with Brian Cooper and his teacher Bruce Frantzis, practising with great diligence and passion. In the meantime, I studied various subjects such as French, Linguistics and Fine Art, but did not find my raison d’etre in any of these. The theories and world-view behind Chinese and Oriental culture that I learned from my studies of Tai Chi seemed so 'right' and familiar to me from the start. However, it took a long time for me to realise that I could develop this fascination with Chinese energetics into a satisfying career.

I studied acupuncture at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading. During my studies I was fortunate enough to work at the Dragon Acupuncture Project in Brighton. The Dragon was the UK’s first non-NHS funded multi-bed acupuncture clinic, and being involved in this pioneering and very successful clinic has fundamentally shaped my practice.

In 2007, I launched the web-based Affordable Acupuncture UK, to gather information about multi-bed practice, list all the UK multi-bed clinics, and to offer support and encouragement to help new clinics get started. In July 2009 Affordable Acupuncture was renamed ACMAC (the Association of Community and Multibed Acupuncture Clinics) and Lewes Community Acupuncture will be the 31st UK clinic listed!

I am passionate about having as great a section of our community as possible be able to access high-quality treatment often enough, and for long enough, to get better and stay better. It is a pleasure to be working with Hye-Eun, Barbara and Jeremy to offer community acupuncture to the good people of Lewes.

I live in Ringmer with my husband, my young son Benjamin and my dog. I love gardening, walking and looking after ACMAC.

Before Hye-Eun embarked on the journey of Chinese medicine ten years ago, she studied first Biology and then English Language & Literature at Kyung-Hee University, Seoul. She also completed her first year in Nursing in Korea University, Seoul before moving to the UK.

Janine MacKerron Lic Ac, MBAcC

Janine Mackerron

I trained as an Acupuncturist nearly thirty years ago and have worked in and around Brighton and Lewes for that time. I have two grown-up sons and initially specialised in treating women around menstrual cycles, fertility, pregnancy and birth. I understood and experienced the same issues as many of my female patients; juggling parenting and work, and the challenges and stresses that can produce. I have frequently also treated my women patients' partners and older children; and I see more men also needing help with managing the different areas of their lives ; and young people needing support with the pressures of education and finding balance within themselves. As I have grown older I have, in a natural process, worked with more women with menopausal and ageing problems, again trying to bring my own experience of this transition into my treatment.

I am a Body Control Pilates trained teacher, which can be helpful in follow-up advice for postural and muscular and joint problems. and I have done several years of supervision training and practice within the profession.

I continue to run my private practice in Brighton; and I am now excited to become a part of the Lewes Community Acupuncture team, to bring the benefits of Acupuncture to more local people;  and to experience the benefits of working in the special environment which this provides, with this team of welcoming, experienced and motivated fellow practitioners.
